I’m pretty sure we are all ready for 2021 to get here. 2020 has been one for the record books I would say. Fortunately though, Christmas is here and we are only days away from (hopefully) a less stressful year. Besides a handful of tough weeks back in spring, we were able to have another successful fishing year and were able to spend quality outdoor time with some of our favorite people, our customers. We couldn’t be more thankful for you guys.

The fishing this year was pretty good with several banner days (and several slower days too, but hey that’s fishing right?). We were able to meet many first time customers and hang out with customers that have been around long enough to consider friends. We hope you guys had just as much fun as we did. The best part about this job is that we get to spend time with so many enjoyable people while doing what we love. That’s what really keeps us going.

Now for some fishing talk! November and December had some really good fishing. Several great days have been had catching redfish, trout, and black drum. Some of the best trips every year come in the colder months and although we are about to get into the coldest weather of the year, it doesn’t necessarily slow down.

January and February will typically deliver some frigid weather but sometimes will give us 65 degrees and light winds. With average high temperatures hovering around 50, bundling up with a few layers can make days on the water bearable. Redfish are mostly the main target for the next two months but that doesn’t mean we won’t see a few good trout bites or black drum bites in the mix. The size of our redfish tend to shrink but the numbers tend to grow during the winter with most fish in the 2lb range (16″-17″) with some bigger slot fish mixed in. We will spend most of our time casting for redfish and trout with scented artificials such as gulp or Zman on light jig heads. When it gets really cold or the wind isn’t cooperating, sometimes we may fish minnows or dead shrimp on the bottom. If you can handle the cold, it should be worth the time and money spent. With double digit days always a high possibility, the next two months shouldn’t necessarily be overlooked.
