Red Drum, Black Drum, and Speckled Trout. Good Fishin!

The inshore fishing continues to be strong with good catches of red drum, black drum, and speckled trout. The bluefish are showing up in good numbers and some of the larger ones 8 to 12 lbs are showing up on the inshore waters. There are also a few flounder and striped bass being caught. The virginia mullet and gray trout are still in the lower part of the Cape Fear river. The spanish mackerel and sheephead should be showing up in the next week or so and we will have a good variety of species to catch.

The wind and the speckled trout bite has kept me off of the flats lately. Hopefully we will get a slick calm day at low water to go and look for some redfish with the Ranger flats boat.

Check out some of the photos from the past couple of weeks.

Good Fishing Despite Windy Conditions

The inshore fishing continues to be good with catches of speckled trout, red drum, black drum, and virginia mullet. There are also a few small flounder showing up along with some bluefish. Some of the trout we are catching are weighing over 4 lbs. Most of the red drum we are catching 17″ to 18″ with a few that are in the slot. Most of the black drum are nice fish 3 to 4 pounders.

There are also a few small flounder and bluefish showing up.

It has been to windy for the past week to get on the flats with the Ranger flats boat and fish for reds, but I am confident that they are still there. Almost all of these fish are in the slot 20″ to 27″ with a few that are over the slot 27″ to 30″.

Hopefully the wind will lay out this week and the fishing will get even better. Give me a call if you would like to go. Check out the photos from the past couple of weeks.

Thanks,
Jeff Wolfe
